About firefly films

Firefly Films is a wedding and event cinematography company, specializing in candid, romantic and emotional storytelling.  We are located in Waxhaw, NC and primarily serve couples located in and around Charlotte; however, we enjoy traveling and are available for events all over the Southeast or the world!

We limit our bookings so that we are able to focus on the fine details of your special day.  We pride ourselves in remaining laser focused on clients’ needs, business practices built on integrity, and always striving to be at the forefront of innovation in the wedding and event cinematography business.

Storytelling is the driving force behind everything we create. We do more than simply create highlight reels. Every film we produce captures the significance, depth and emotion of your special day so that you, and future generations, can relive your meaningful and most precious moments.

The relationships we build with our clients is the fundamental basis or our business.  We rely on the satisfaction and feedback of others, and work hard to ensure that every client has an exclusive and genuinely enjoyable experience. Everyone has a story that deserves to be told – we consider it an honor and a privilege to be allowed to tell yours.

About tj Kohlbrenner

I grew up in a filmmaking family.  For as long as I can remember I was starring in, filming, and editing videos with my 6 siblings.  We started with Super 8 film, graduated to VHS, and eventually arrived at Digital Video.  Over 3 decades, I have learned what works and what doesn't when it comes to shot composition and editing.

Thirteen years ago I landed my dream job as a high school film production teacher, where I get to spend my weekdays teaching children how to work a camera and compose beautiful images. Cinematography is my passion, and I am blessed to be able to share my abilities with future generations of filmmakers.  Another major focus of the courses that I teach is editing.  Many people underestimate how much of an art film editing is.  Two people can be handed the same unedited footage and ultimately end up with two completely different final cuts. Good editing requires tremendous creativity and broad technical ability.  Having used digital editing software since it's debut, I have truly mastered the craft of digital film editing.

In the summer of 2011, I was asked to film my sister-in-law's wedding.  I jumped at the chance and immediately fell in love with wedding cinematography!  So much time and energy goes into a wedding and I love capturing the whole event, down to the fine details, so that bride, groom, and family can relive the day for generations.  I am truly honored to document the passion and beauty of one of the most special days of a bride and groom's life.
